Heathrow Voted UK’s Worst Airport

Heathrow Airport has been voted the UK’s worst airport for customer satisfaction. Terminals 2, 3 and 4 came out worst in a poll by Which? Magazine, followed closely by Gatwick’s two terminals. But the one bright spot was Heathrow Terminal 5 – despite its disastrous opening last year it managed a mid-table finish, scoring well for its shopping and eating.

South African Express Flies Between Jo’burg and PE

South African Express has announced a new route. The airline is flying between Johannesburg and Port Elizabath twice daily from 30 March. A 50 seats Bombardier CRJ200 will be used on the route.

Cathay Pacific Cut Fuel Subcharge

Cathay Pacific of Hong Kong will further reduced its fuel subcharge for approximately 15% from 1 April. The new maximum subcharge on fuel will be HKD239 (R292,00) for the long-haul flights.

Johannesburg O R Tambo Int’l Airport Terminal Name Changed

Johannesburg O R Tambo Int’l Airport has made the decision to change the name of terminals from 1 April. The currently international terminal will be named Terminal A and currently domestic terminal will be named Terminal B. The new check-in counter numbers will have an alphanumeric numbering system. A three digit number will be prefaced by A or B depending on which terminal it is located in.

Lufthansa Close Frankfurt – Cape Town Flight

Lufthansa announced that the last flight between Frankfurt – Cape Town will be departed Frankfurton today, 27 March  and return from Cape Town on 28 March. The airline will resumed this route on 25 October this year.

Virgin Atlantic Departure Time Changing

Virgin Atlantic has changed departure time of its Johannesburg – London route from 28 March until 23 October. The new departure time will be 20:40, a bit earlier than currently schudel. The airline also announced the equipment changing, revert it’s currently B747 to A340-600.

SAA Launched Flight to Gaborone

SAA has launched flight from Johannesburg to Gaborone on 23 March. Twice daily flight departure at 08:35 and 15:55, return at 10:25 and 17:30. An Airbus A319 is using on this route.

Fly to London for R5310 All Taxes Included

Virgin Atlantic is offering a special promotion fare from Johannesburg or Cape Town to London return on R5310 in Economy and R14520 in Premium Class all included. Passengers must book their ticket online before 31 March and travel between 06 Mar – 11 Apr, 28 Apr – 17 Jun, 07 Sep – 30 Sep.

Meanwhile, SAA also is offering similar deal on flight from Johannesburg or Cape Town to London return on R5640 in Economy all included. Passengers also must book their ticket before 31 March and travel between now to 31 Jun or 1 Sep – 30 Sep.

Final 787 Dreamliner for Flight Test Enters Final Assembly

The sixth and final Boeing 787 Dreamliner designated for flight test is now undergoing final assembly in Everett, Wash. The airplane, designated ZA006, will be powered with General Electric GEnx engines.

Progress continues on the fleet. The first flight test airplane, ZA001, is getting its paint touched up this week before finishing factory testing. Power was brought onto the second airplane, ZA002, in late February and build verification tests are progressing well. Production work continues on ZA003, ZA004 and ZA005. In all, assemblies for 31 Dreamliners are currently in production throughout the supply chain.

The 787 Dreamliner has orders for 878 airplanes from 57 customers.
